Gifts and donations

Gifts and Donations Policy

The Institute Library is grateful for gifts and its collections have been enriched by contributions from staff members, former students and other individuals, and companies. The Library reserves the right to decide which gifts should be added to its collections. The Institute also reserves the right to give to other libraries or otherwise dispose of gift materials that are not added to the collection.

  • All gifts will become the property of the Library and will be evaluated and handled in the same manner as purchased materials.
  • No conditional terms of acceptance are permitted.
  • If the materials can be used by the Library, they will be integrated into the collection and standard circulation procedures will be followed.
  • When materials are inappropriate for the Library's collection, they will be disposed of in the same manner as other library materials.
  • Physical condition will be considered when accepting gifts.

Specific types of donations

Journal Collections

  • Please note that the library will not accept donations of incomplete collections of journals, or collections where issues are missing.
  • An incomplete collection of a journal run does not offer our learning community the level of service they require, and creates a low level of expected service, which in turn generates poor quality.
  • The library also reserves the right not to accept collections of journals which can be accessed via our electronic information delivery services.

  • The library welcomes donations of fiction materials not currently held in the library.
  • If you would like to donate a substantial number of fiction titles, please contact the library in advance to make the appropriate arrangements.
  • These titles will be dealt with in the same manner as all other donations.

Non book materials

  • The library welcomes non-book materials (Videos, DVD’s, Cassettes, Micro format materials, etc.) as gifts or donations.
  • These materials will be dealt with in the same manner as all other donations and should contain subject matter relevant to the teaching remit of ITT DUBLIN.

  • The library welcomes donations and/or gifts of equipment (microform readers, computing equipment, televisions, DVD players etc.).
  • Please note that the library has very specific needs in relation to equipment and these should be discussed with the library before any formal offer is made.
  • If you would like to make this type of donation or gift, please contact the Institute Librarian to discuss this possibility.

Anyone wishing to make a donation to the library should print out and sign the gifts and donations form, and submit it with the materials to be deposited in the library. After reading the terms of the library's collection development policy, please contact us if you do not wish your donation to be handled in this manner. If the library do not hear from you within 10 days, the material will be handled as indicated above.
