Introduction

There are a number of information sources that you can use for researching for your projects and assignments. These come in a variety of formats such as Handbooks, Journals (Print & Electronic), Electronic databases and Internet sites. This guide lists the key resources to help you find relevant information.

Library Catalogue

This gives a list of all the books, journals, DVDs etc. that IT Tallaght library holds. It tells you whether an item is in stock, if it is on loan, how many copies are available and where it is shelved. You can also view what items you have on loan & place requests for items on loan by another user.

Journals/Periodicals

Printed journals are arranged in the same way as the Book Stock by Subject/Call No. for e.g. Popular Mechanics 620, Manufacturing Ireland 670.92. Current issues of journals are on display in the journal area of the library. Back issues are located underneath the display shelf or in the Journal Store Area. Journals may be consulted within the library only.

Electronic journals can be accessed via links from the via the Journals A-Z page on the library website and by searching the library catalogue.

Previous engineering theses and projects are useful sources of information and are shelved in the Theses and Projects Section of the library at class mark 670 for Mechanical/ Manufacturing & 621.38 for Electronic engineering. All theses and projects are reference only.

Access to other Libraries

If relevant material in your subject area is not held at our library you may ask at the library desk for a letter of introduction to another library. This will allow you access for one day and for reference purposes only. However access to other libraries is strictly limited and in some cases there may be a charge which is passed on to students.
