Requesting an Inter-Library Loan
You may request an inter-library loan online.
You will require your student/staff ID number and a self-assigned PIN number for any online requests. Click the link to assign yourself a PIN if you do not already have one.
NOTE: Requests for pre-publication articles will not be processed
Insufficient information and pre-publications
These requests slow down the service. You will be notified if your request cannot be processed and you will need to reapply with the correct information or when the material has been published. It is recommended that before submitting a request, the details are checked on a citation database.
Delivery and Notification
How long does it take?
Articles usually arrive at the library within a week to ten days. Books may take a little longer depending on availability. Please take note of this delay when ordering items, and incorporate it into any time limits you may be working under.
How will I know when my request has arrived?
Requestors will be notified by e-mail or telephone according to the details submitted on the request form. Items will be held behind the circulation desk to be picked up within 5 days. Pickup must coincide with desk opening hours. If the item is not picked up after this time and no other arrangements have been made then it will be returned to the lending library and future library privileges may be jeopardised.
Loan Periods, Recalls and Renewals
The loan period for books and other returnable material is determined by the lending library and is usually 2 to 4 weeks.
The lending library may recall an item – in this case the item may not be renewed. Requests for renewal may be considered and must be made in advance of the due date by contacting the inter-library loans team in the library.
Overdue, lost or damaged materials
Library privileges may be suspended for patrons with materials which have not been returned.
A bill will be issued for the replacement cost of the item. Charges incurred from lost or damaged material will be the responsibility of the requesting patron. The charge for replacement/loss of material is currently a minimum €175.00 (excludes VAT). All unpaid charges will result in the suspension of library privileges.
The loss of items from lending institutions may result in the library being blacklisted with the supplier.
To ensure this does not happen, you are asked to make a note of the return date issued to you, and to make every effort to return before that date
Return of items
It is the responsibility of the borrower to ensure that the item is returned to the library desk. The self-service machine should not be used.
Copyright
The library conducts all transactions in accordance with the COPYRIGHT AND RELATED RIGHTS ACT, 2000. The library reserves the right to refuse to fill a request if, in its judgement, fulfilment of the order would involve violation of copyright law. It is the responsibility of the requestor to operate within copyright law.
The requirements under copyright law permit only one article from any journal issue to be requested. All requests for journal articles or part works must be signed by the requestor.
